I am a Sr. Staff Researcher and Co-Director of VMware Academic Program. VMAP
looks at external research and emerging technologies, and develops collaborations with top academic researchers around the globe. At the same time, we work to connect ideas with internal technical teams and to explore specific areas of research translation.
Some recent areas of focus as a researcher are in enterprise security. I am interested in Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) migration challenges and developing cryptographic agility frameworks that will enable it. I have worked on confidential computing approaches to virtualized computing infrastructures. Another area of recent work is provenance graphing and related techniques for endpoint detection and response (EDR). I've also been interested in distributed control plane ideas for enabling programmable security.
I have worked in a variety of technical roles over the years related to enterprise computing, including several years as a senior software engineer. My work in research over the last decade has spanned computer security, communications, system software, hardware architectures, and more.
I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005.
